Since its foundation in 1997, French fashion brand Zadig & Voltaire has not only expanded its collections, but also rolled out a retail network that spans 28 countries in Europe, North America and the Far East. The interior design of its boutiques has so far shown a generic blueprint, but very recently, Zadig & Voltaire revealed a rather stunning one-off design for a new flagship store in Paris, and it’s a venture that can be seen as a celebration of the company’s 20th anniversary.

Flanking rue Cambon on One Side, and bustling rue de Rivoli on the other, it’s without doubt a prestigious location. The fashion brand tapped Brussels-based architect Bernard Dubois to create a retail statement that’s unprecedented in its history, and one that blends retail with contemporary art.

The retail space has palatial dimensions, featuring 850 sqm. spread across three floors, the design is understated and based on graphic perspectives with clean lines. Obviously, the materials used, such as Italian ceppo di gré stone, concrete and plaster. A sophisticated lighting system beautifully accentuates the architectural understatement. Each of the three levels presents a range of Zadig & Voltaire’s elaborate ready-to-wear collection.

The ground floor is dedicated to shoes, sneakers and accessories. One floor up the brand’s womenswear and kids collection is presented. It’s in the flagship’s basement section where the men’s collection is interspersed with works by leading contemporary artists, notably paintings by Richard Serra, Julian Schnabel and Adam Mcewen, in addition to sculptures by Franz West and Daniel Firman.
