The opportunity is to intervene on a particular site: a narrow and long site placed on a slope, inlaid into a residential setting, framed with orchards and vineyards. We’re in Rancate, looking at East the town of Mendrisio, hidden by a thick wood. The long passage in the trench, located at the west entrance of the dwelling, clearly shows the relationship between the building and the nature of the intervention’ site. That tight passage solves the gap between the plot of land placed at high altitude. It reveals the volume’ basement that is superficially treated differently from the upper facades, enclosing housing units. A single roof articulates, by bending itself, the entire length of the building, like an alter ego of the basement, which incorporate technical premises, cellars and garages. It remains braided to the size and to the meaning of excavation and ground.
