도시와 대학을 연결하는 커다란 매개공간, 공용공간으로써 장소와 공간을 연결, 사람과 사람을 연결하는 본연의 자세를 지향g한다. 여기 헬싱키 대학 중앙 도서관은 핀란드 내 가장 큰 규모의 도서관으로 대학내 교육, 문화, 소셜의 문화적 환경의 지원과 실질적인 공용공간 활용을 위해 위치한다. 그리고 또한 지리적 위치를 투영; 도심 중심부에 위치, 일반 대중들에게 열린 어반 퍼블릭 스페이스로도 제공되어 진다. 도서관 본연의 정보 제공 및 교류는 변화하는 시대를 반영한 다양한 디지털 디바이스를 통한 디지털 정보 제공은 물론 전통적인 인포메이션을 이용한 정보 제공 또한 건축공간에 구현한다. 이러한 건축공간은 적층된 도서관 내부를 수직으로 관통하는 보이드 스페이스를 통하여 쾌적하며 집중도 높은 내부환경을 구축한다. -자연채광과 내부 층간 공기를 효율적으로 이동시킨다.- 벽돌 그리고 커다란 유선형 보이드가 인상적인 외형은 도심 속 사람들을 유입시키는 촉매재인 동시에 도서관의 고유한 캐릭터를 구축하는 디자인 요소로 사용된다.

‘helsinki university main library’, the largest academic library in finland, has been completed by anttinen oiva architects.
the brief required a building to be constructed which, as well as
catering for the school’s students and staff, reached out to the broader
public. the scheme, located in the city center, seeks to cater for a
new age of digital information, in addition to providing more
conventional services.

the design team worked to make sure that the structure remained compatible with its surroundings in terms of materials and scale. the curved brick façade compliments the existing urban block while a large arched opening ensures that the institution retains a distinct external appearance.
