이전시간에 대한 존중일까?
18세기 오래된 교회를 복원합니다. 그안에 새로운 오디토리움과 컬쳐센터를 계획합니다.
하지만 그안에 새롭게 담기는 것은 이전시간의 이해를 위한 도구이지,
새로운 공간을 만들기 위한 작업은 아닙니다.
성 프란체스코 수도원 복원 프로젝트는 그런 의미에서 건축가가 지향하는
설계의도처럼 이전 공간과 재료를 남겨둔채 교회가 가지고 있는
크기에서 크게 벗어 나지 않는 방향으로 설계됩니다.
또한 새롭게 조성된 공간마저도 이전공간을 이해하기 위한
보조수단으로 작용합니다. 이렇게 재구성된 교회는
교회내부로 인도하는 주출입구의 메탈박스와
천장을 덮는 구조물 이외에 최소한으로 새로운 것을 덧붙입니다.
시간과 함께 쌓여 있는 오래된 돌벽의 거친 입자만큼
아름다움이 느껴지는 리노베이션 프로젝트 입니다.

In Santpedor, Spain, an crippled 18th century church has been restored and rejuvenated with a new purpose and life.
The
church originally had a neighbouring Franciscan convent, build by
priests, which was abandoned in 1835 and destroyed in 2000. Seeking to
save what was remaining of the church nextdoor, architect David Closes injected an auditorium and cultural centre while maintaining original dimensions.
Leaving
old materials intact, Closes added new elements on top of original ones
– the difference between old and new is not only evident, but a vital
aspect of the restoration project.
‘The renovation allows
visitors to read historical wounds and the building's most important
spatial values, without giving up the use of contemporary language in
the new elements introduced in the intervention,’ Closes says.
