‘The painted room’ continues where the ‘stasis’ series left off - taking it to its natural conclusion on a much larger scale. Differing slightly in technique, this time splotches of paint cling to a forest of vertically strung monofilament to recreate a to-scale living room setting. I want to underscore the paradox I find fascinating between the cold hard grey matter of a purely material existen..
Three students from Studio Lynn at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna have designed a conceptual boat factory for the island of Cres in Croatia. Called Factoreef, it has been designed by Julcsi Futo, Bika Rebek and Stefan Ritter, students on the course run by architect Greg Lynn. The architects describe the project as “a large scale, smoothly undulating roof held by an intricate steel trus..
Designer Crispin Jones has launched five new additions to his Mr Jones Watches range. The Average Day (top image) is a watch that displays time broken down into possible activities rather than hours. Taylors Island, Maryland Named for the tall pines that characterize its site on the Chesapeake Bay, this 2,200 square-foot single family residence seeks to deeply fuse the natural elements of this barrier island to architectural form. Positioned between a dense grove of loblolly pines and a lush foreground of saltmeadow cordgrass and the bay, the architecture is formed about and within the eleme..

We´ve seen tons of pictures of both the exterior and the inner court of Herzog & de Meuron’s bird nest in Beijing during the Olympics. But what we haven’t seen is the intermediate space inside the nest fibers, a space which looked amazing on the early renderings. But thanks to Edgar Gonzalez, we can see the colorful inners of the Bird’s Nest through Manuel Ocaña’s Flickr. Pictures after the break.

StairCASE This is one of my favourite projects, which realised in 8 weeks, from assigned theme to an almost finished and working prototype. The initial keywords: space, storage, future.
