The building will house 850 parking places for hospital staff and visitors. The study focused on the best manner in which to make the routes taken by pedestrians and car drivers both clear and comfortable and to afford them views of Valenciennes. The slope of the parking lot is continuous and the breaks between levels have been removed. This configuration optimises the surface areas of the ramps and allows the site coverage of the future building to be reduced. The acoustic comfort is better and pollution levels are lower. The gain in space is put to good use in several ways. To the north, by keeping a line of existing trees. At the center of the building, a break consisting of small garden areas brings in natural light and contributes to allowing fumes to escape from the parking areas. To the south, an exterior circulation gallery channels and directs users of the parking lot towards ground level and the entrance to the hospital center. A large openwork structure consisting of spars of Douglas pine acts as a guard railing and forms the façade on Avenue Désandrouin.
