The Perfect Match Of Leather And Marble In Grégoire de Lafforest’s Opper Lounge Chair

French interior designer and architect Grégoire de Lafforest has created a truly contemporary lounge chair which, behind its apparent simplicity, conceals a well-thought interplay of contrasting elements. The elegant ‘Opper’ chair juxtaposes the rigid, cool Carrara marble volume of its base with the warm, softer leather seat inspired by 1970’s motorbike saddles, all the while combining the functions of a lounge chair and a side table in one piece of furniture. Hollow inside, the marble base also provides storage for the seat’s bespoke cushions. The ‘Opper’ chair has been released in a limited edition series of 12 + 1 prototype.

Grégoire de Lafforest graduated from the ESAG Penninghen, Paris. He successively worked for some of the most prestigious interior design studios in France, namely Bruno Moinard, Noé Duchaufour Lawrence and Gilles & Boissier collaborating on major projects such as Hermès’ corporate headquarters in Paris, the Cartier jewellery shops, a private hotel for Veuve Clicquot and most recently the “Ciel de Paris” restaurant at the top of the Montparnasse tower. He is represented by Gallery Gosserez, a leading design gallery in the North Marais district in Paris. The gallery also features the work of Chilean design collective Great Things to People (gt2p), whose impressive Catenary pottery printer was presented on Yatzer in October 2013.
