selective laser sintering (otherwise known as SLS) is an additive manufacturing technology that has multiple benefits. the process works by converting 3D data into layers of material that will be compiled on top of one another according to the necessary specifications. the resulting physical parts are lightweight, highly durable, and heat and chemical resistant, all of which were created without the expense of tooling. with an understanding of this technique, omer sagiv has design the ‘luna bicycle’.

the project used the method to shape a nylon frame, front-fork, and handle bar, while the rest of the components are off-the-shelf to keep costs to a minimum. the hexagonal pattern provides for a minimal surface area while ensuring strength and stability. as the parts are printed on demand, sagiv suggests that no stock is required. this is accompanied by no investment in moulding and thus, allows for changes to be made to the overall form, colors, and materials.
