located on the shore of the rhone river in france, avignon-based architect raphael azalbert has designed ‘maison ouane’. neutral in color and modest in materials, the structure is comprised of concrete panels and wooden grills that open towards the waterfront to illuminate the surrounding area whilst revealing the private spaces of the family home.
the wooden slats flow from the façade and into the interior where they form a bar catering for the ground-level terrace roofed by the second floor. the minimalistic spirit is maintained throughout every aspect of the design — the white clean walls are complemented by a wooden-beamed ceiling of natural color.
the azalbert’s overlooks the city of avignon over the river, its historical sites, and boulevards. at night, the structure hidden in the woods illuminates the surroundings like a lighthouse by the water.
