steep-slope roofs top the volumes of TAA design's 'phu my garden' park in vietnam

TAA design has arranged a cluster of volumes topped with steep-slope tile roofs into the ‘phu my garden’ park in vung tau, vietnam. the project is located in a new urban zone of the city’s port area, characterized by industrial buildings, residential blocks, and a lack of public spaces for the people. set on a 10.000 sqm land, the new urban park comprises multiple public functions such as dining and leisure areas, and playgrounds for children.

instead of designing a ‘heavy’ construction influenced by the industrial environment of the neighborhood, TAA design approached ‘phu my garden’ with craft and emotion in mind, combining traditional culture with contemporary aesthetics. the vietnamese architecture studio has developed the park as a cluster of volumes, each of which surrounding an inner courtyard and bearing a different functionality. arranged in different angles, the volumes form an interesting layout of diverse spatial elements found in vernacular architecture, such as steep-slope tile roofs, inner courtyards, columns, and semi-open structures.

the architecture of the park acts as the background for the public activities it offers, creating unlimited connections between indoor and outdoor spaces, inner gardens, and sheltered terraces. the different volumes, topped with steep-sloping roofs, indicate the main spaces and circulation of the project, while allowing trees and greenery to grow between them. in terms of color and materiality, the park combines monochromatic walls, a wooden structure, and raw concrete on the floors, blended together to create a rustic, atmospheric environment.
