제 주도 서귀포 핀크스 골프 클럽 가까이 조성된 비오토피아는 이타미 준과 유이화가 설계한 연립주택, 생태공원, 미술관, 교회 등으로 구성된다. 기존의 황폐한 자연을 개조해 자연과 함께할 수 있는 적극적인 건축 프로그램을 만들었다는 것이 특징이다. 2004년에 시작해 2005년부터 계획된 연립주택은 2010년에 완성된다. 비오토피아는 제주도가 지닌 휴양 요소를 충분히 도입한 저층 집합 주택이다. 자연에 대한 개념은 독일의 뒤셀도르프에서 실험된 예를 적용했다. 이는 황무지에 가까운 자연을 인공적으로 개조하면 10~20년 후에 새로운 자연으로서 다시 태어난다는 점을 확인하는 실험이다. 우리는 자연에 광범위하게 손을 대는 것이 아니라, 인공 요소를 최소한으로 가미하고 인프라를 정비해 미개척 벌판을 새로운 자연으..
