> HQ/Operations Terminal Building
Client: TAG Farnborough Airport Ltd
International design competition win to deliver a new business aviation airport. The project includes
a 4,000sqm operations and headquarters building, which won a Royal Institute of British Architects
(RIBA) Award.
Innovations & Added Value
Innovative operations building design delivered under budget; 25,000 aluminium shingles used on the
terminal which are 100% recyclable; delivered without incident or reportable lost days.
Status: Completed - second set of hangars at planning
> Air Traffic Control Tower
Client: TAG Farnborough Airport Ltd
35m air traffic control tower as part of the international design competition success.
Innovations & Added Value
The integration of the tower and support building has been resolved by using a seamless brushed
aluminium skin, inspired by aircraft and boat building technology, as a cloak, which is extruded up
the stem of the tower before flaring outwards to support the Visual Control Room. It is the first tower
in the UK to have a 16-sided glazed control room; traditionally they are 6-8 sides.
Status: Completed
> Hangars
Client: TAG Farnborough Ltd
Three bay hangar 290m long, 45m deep and 22m high at the apex. One bay is capable of housing two
Boeing 737 aircraft. The other two bays are used for a combination of smaller aircraft.
Innovations & Added Value
The tied arch design solution allowed the team to reduce the area of the elevations and therefore
the cost of the cladding. The added benefit was improved aesthetics, reduced wind load on the structure
and a reduced impact on the surroundings
Status: Completed – a second phase is currently planned
