Siteless - 1001 buildings forms

반응형
From sheer boredom of contemporary architecture, Francois Blanciak, compiles a book of 1001 illustrations of building forms disregarding site, program and scale. Even gravity.
Instead of the conventional sequence of "program + site = form" he presents the direct opposite illustrating the infinite potential of the playful approach to architecture and design.
For many the book will appear as a shallow formalistic exercise that acts as nothing more than a catalog of ideas for people looking for a quick inspiration. And it's hard to understand the publisher's description of the book as a "manifesto".

Despite the grand notion of the publisher or people's critiscm and praise of the book, the essential aspect of Francois' work is that it makes you wonder - regardless whether one likes or dislikes his formal approach.

His illustrations makes you wonder how it'd turn out if it was transformed into architecture. It makes you wonder how the form would mutate and evolve when programmed with functions and introduced to a site. It makes you wonder whether just one of his 1001 siteless building forms will ever materialize into the real world.

I hope so.

Here's his example for the Taipei Performing Arts Center.
