[ JAM* Architects ] Villa Vollebregt

The house, along the Lisdoddelaan in the Amsterdam vinex-area IJburg, is part of the Kleine Rieteiland, where private families have the opportunity to realize their dream home. In the urban plan by John Bosch, with a square type public space and surrounded by a high, enclosing walls from various houses, the front elevation is relatively closed and rather inconspicuous. This is quite a big contrast with the spectacular interior space filled with daylight and a panoramic view overlooking the water towards the former Diemerzeedijk. The villa is arranged around a number of patios, courtyards and voids, allowing daylight to enter deep inside the building and providing surprising views through the house. The living space (kitchen, dining, living, study area and library) on the ground floor, surround the patio. When the weather is pleasant, three large sliding doors make the patio part of the living space. It is an exterior space, sheltered from the breeze on this windy island, with more privacy than the back garden. The passage way to the bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs is planned around a two storey void, with a huge sky light overhead which can be opened. The master bedroom and the children’s bathroom have access to a spacious and sunny roof terrace overlooking the Diemerpark.
