바로크 양식의 중세성당에 새롭게 쓰여진 파빌리온은 이전시간과 현재의 시간을 연결하는
중요한 매개체로 사용됩니다. 거리와 성당을 구분짓는 오랜된 돌담 사이로 열린 램프를 통하여 진입되는
파빌리온은 콘크리트 기단부에 설치되어 있습니다. 이렇게 인도된 방문객들은 버티컬우드로 지지대되는
파빌리온 내부와 마주하게 됩니다. 이렇게 들어온 파빌리온 내부에서 우리는 그동안 잊고 지냈던
서로의 허심탄회한 이야기를 나누게 됩니다. 벽을 따라 둘러 쌓여 있는 심플한 우드벤치에 마주 앉아서...
그러면 어느샌가 클리어스토리로 비쳐 들어오는 아침햇살에 내부공간이 환해지는 것을
맛 볼 수 있을 것입니다.

set within a scenery of mountain peaks in defereggen in the east tyrol
region of austria is 'cemetery + wake room hopfgarten' by austrian firm schneider & lengauer architects. adjacent to a baroque church, the centrally located building offers villagers a place to mourn and say farewell as well as have daily encounters with the community.
natural stone walls border ramps which lead to an entry forecourt, also separating the site from the street. the concrete structure is
faced with quarry stone masonry. vertical wood planks project above the top of the walls to support the rafters and traditional alpine shingles surfacing the roof.
visitors pass through a solid two-winged gate into a larch wood
paneled room. illumination is integrated into the panels for winter
months and nighttime. simple benches are mounted to the perimeter walls for
family communication within a parlor setting. on the eastern elevation, a slit window brings in morning light. a band of clerestory windows wrap
the entire room, welcoming daylight to brighten the atmosphere along with a backdrop of only forested mountainsides and sky.
