남극 북동측 반도에 위치한 새로운 연구기지는 단열성능이 확보된

에어로다이나믹 메탈 스킨으로 덮여진 134개의 화물용 컨테이너로

구성된다. 이러한 연구기지는 어느장소, 지역에서도 쉽게 적용, 구축 할 수 있는

접근성과 이동성 그리고 프로그램에 따라 확장, 분할이 용이한 유연성을 기반으로

2006년도 부터 남극을 비롯한 인근 해역까지 탐사 조사하는 전초기지로 활용되었다.

지면으로 부터 들려진 -필로티 구조- 2층은 연구기지의 메인 스페이스로

주방, 식당, 도서관, 휘트니스룸, 오피스, 라운지 등을 포함하며

24개의 싱글 또는 더블 유닛으로 구성된다.

situated on a pen­in­su­la in nort­heastern antarc­tica, the 'bharati antarctic research station' by hamburg-based bof arkitekten presents a self-sufficient energy facility comprised of 134 shipping containers wrapped with an insulating aerodynamic metal skin. the 2,500 sq m (27,000 sq ft) development, which was awarded by the na­tio­nal cen­ter for antarc­tic and oce­an re­se­arch in 2006, is conceived as an architectural volume that can easily be completely dis-assembled due to the re­stric­ted ac­ces­si­bi­li­ty within the re­gi­on.

energy is provided for the sta­ti­on using a combination of heat and power units; the re­si­du­al heat from electri­ci­ty production is enough to warm the en­ti­re sta­ti­on year-round. a to­tal of 24 sin­gle and doub­le rooms are lo­ca­ted on the se­cond flo­or which include a kit­chen/di­ning room, libra­ry, fit­ness room, as well as the of­fi­ces and a lounge. the lo­wer elevation hou­ses the la­bo­ra­to­ry and the sto­ra­ge and technical spa­ces, and the third level provides a ter­ra­ce which can be used for sci­en­ti­fic ex­pe­ri­ments.
