*비엔나 캠퍼스 [ CRAB studio ] vienna university's law + admin buildings

비엔나 캠퍼스 법대학동과 대학 관리동 신축은 비엔나 캠퍼스 전체 마스터 플랜 중 하나로 소통을 근간으로 하는 연속된 배움의 장을 목표로 진행된다. 다이나믹하며 생동감 있는 건축물의 외형은 캠퍼스 아웃도어 스페이스와 연속된 공간으로 건축물 중정에 위치한 센트럴 플라자; 어반 랜드스케이프로 확장된다. 내외부의 밀착된 건축은 밝고 볼드하다. 지면으로 부터 그라데이션된 오렌지컬러는 각 레벨마다 다른 스펙트럼으로 이 지역의 팀버루버와 발란스를 이루며 건축물의 외형을 정의한다. 그리고 또한 이 루버 시스템을 통하여 내부공간은 태양의 직사광선으로 부터 자유로워지는 동시에 배움의 공간에 일정한 조도를 유입시키는 채광장치로 사용된다. 여기에 디자인된 외부 랜드스케이프는 이 지역의 자생식물을 통한 고유한 자연환경의 연장은 물론 캠퍼스가 위치한 우드랜드의 장소성을 투영하는 외부공간계획으로 캠퍼스 마스터플랜을 지향한다.

CRAB studio have completed the ‘departments of law and central administration’ at vienna university, part of the ongoing development at the campus, masterplanned by BUSarchitektur. using their experience of working in colleges, sir peter cook and gavin robotham ensured that a vibrant and dynamic building was constructed, comprising an engaging collection of spaces which cater for the needs of students and professors during classes and outside of teaching hours.

the scheme is made up of two long buildings which frame a central plaza, connecting the site within the urban landscape. bright and bold façades add color to the design, while elevations are clad in locally sourced timber louvers, protecting the internal volumes from the sun, and reflecting the university’s woodland setting. over time the structure will be covered in natural vegetation, allowing the design to become part of the surrounding environment.

the scheme’s various levels protrude from one another, forming external balconies and roof terraces where students and teachers can meet, converse and debate. the campus also hosts zaha hadid’s ‘library and learning center’, alongside a number of other works by renowned practices.
