네덜란드 위트레흐트 시의 정비구역 가운데 한 곳에 위치한 새로운 스피링어 공원의 외곽에 건설된 더 아키텍트- The Architect(De Bouwmeester)는 색과 모양, 그리고 재료를 통해 눈에 띄는 건물이다.
더 아키텍트의 빛나는 황금색 금속으로 된 독창적인 둥근 모서리들과 계단식 볼륨 및 물결모양의 발코니는 주변의 조용한 주택가나 암스테르담-라인 운하를 따라 위치한 산업건출물들과 대조적인 모습이다. 그러나, 더 아키텍트는 일만제곱미터 규모의 기능적 프로그램임에도 불구하고 환경과 조화를 이루고 있다. 그 규모는 따뜻한 색감의 벽돌 기둥 위에 세워져 있고, 하나의 뜰 주위를 감싸고 있다. 가장 낮은 건물 높이는 2층이며, 가장 높은 층은 공원 가에 위치하고 있는데 7층 높이다.
각 "계단"은 주변 녹지의 탁 트인 전망을 감상할 수 있는 공공 테라스 공간을 제공한다. 높은 층 위에서, 거주민들은 위트레흐트 외곽의 경관을 관망하게 된다. 지상에서는 1층이나 부분적으로는 2층에도 거주민들을 위한 각기 다른 생활 공간들이 존재한다. 더 아키텍트는 1층에 보육 및 커뮤니티 센터와 결합되어 있는 지속적으로 유지 가능한 사회적 기능들의 복합공간을 보유하고 있다. 1층의 레이아웃은 유연하면서도 거대한 유리 외관을 통해 조경 정원으로 확장이 가능하다. 여기에는 만남과 관계를 시야 앞에 창조하는 모든 기능들이 어우려져 있다. 젊은 사람이나 나이 많은 사람이나 이 사회적 공간 한 가운데에서 보호받는다. 더 아키텍트는 Vecht 강, 암스테르담-라인 운하 사이에 위치한 녹색 방사부인 스피링어공원 정비 프로젝트의 정점 중 하나이다. 이 도시 계획은 LEVS architecten에 의해 설계되었으며, 이 계획은 지역 정비를 위한 청사진이라고 할 수 있다.
The Architect (De Bouwmeester) is with its colour, shape and material a striking building at the edge of the new Springer Park in one of the renewal districts in the city of Utrecht.

The shiny golden metal, the exclusive round corners, the cascading volume and undulating balconies are in contrast with the quiet residential neighbourhood and the ragged edge of industrial buildings along the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. Yet The Architect blends with its environment on each side despite the large functional program of 10,000 m2. The volume stands on a plinth of warmly coloured masonry and rises around a courtyard. The lowest point is only two floors high, the highest point is at the park side and has seven floors.
Each “stair” offers space for a shared terraces with panoramic views of the surrounding greenery. On the upper floors, the residents look to the outskirts of Utrecht.
On the ground, first and partly on the second floors there are different living areas for residents requiring care. Above there is social housing. The Architect has, combined with nursery and community centre at ground level, a sustainable mix of social functions. The layout of the ground floor is flexible and extends into a landscaped garden through a large glass facade. Here all functions come together creating meeting places and relationships in sight. Both, young and old, stay protected and right in the middle of the society.
The Architect is one of the anchor points of the renewal of the Springer Park, the green lobe between the river Vecht and the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. With its functional features it significantly contributes to the vitality of the neighbourhood. The urban plan, in which also the two adjacent neighbourhoods are lined out, was designed by LEVS architecten too. This plan is the blueprint for the renewal of the district.
