A multifaceted single home capable of standing up to the discerning Wang family's needs is what was requested of HAO Design to deliver by combining two multilevel apartments within the confines of an east and west-facing building in Tainan City, Taiwan. The 785 square meter project, which was just completed at the beginning of 2017, proves to be the family's exact anticipations come to life and perfectly fits in with their mellow lifestyle.

The answer to combining the two apartments lied in creating a bridge connecting the two - hence the project's title - a feature which not only adds character, depth and light at all times of the day to the home but also opens it up for a design scope that is very unique and highly impressive. One of the most distinctive features is probably the fact that there is not just a single family living room or kitchen, but instead, spaces for the family to gather, sit and eat together have been placed throughout the five floors of the home, both indoors as well as outdoors.

As far as the décor goes, it's quite seamless in that the general thread running through the entire home is one that can be described as almost "beachy," filled with natural textures and colors such as light-toned wood - seen on both floors and walls - and white walls with either natural colored or white brick accents. Splashes of turquoise and teal blue bring a seaside energy and reserved drama to the décor's design, either in the form of the main kitchen's wood cabinets and large central island, a turquoise sofa in one of the sitting rooms, a wall of wood cabinets in a dining room, or the tufted headboard fabric in the master bedroom, among others.

Another distinctive touch in the home's layout is that it is actually quite open plan in a way, especially between the kitchen on the second floor - which is at the front of the building - and the library - located at the back - via windows in both those rooms that open up across the covered bridge. The retro-style, wood sided bridge itself is, of course, the note that most characterizes the home as it not only connects the east and west wings, but is also a destination "garden/room" in and of itself, with its glass eaves, potted plants and foliage throughout and Mr. Wang's collection of African tribal masks and collectibles proudly displayed on the walls.
