7번째 방(7th Room)이라는 이름의 이 건물은 스웨덴 북부지방의 하라드 숲속에 위치한 트리호텔 중 일부이다. 마치 나무 위 집(트리하우스 tree house)를 떠오르게 하는 7th Room은 어린이의 동심을 자아내게 하는 구조물로 보인다. 스웨덴 특유의 소나무 숲에서 나무 그늘 아래 지상 10미터 높이로 지어진 7th Room의 특징은 거대한 창문과 철조망같은 테라스라고 할 수 있다. 안과 밖의 경계를 무너뜨리는 거대한 창들은 마치 오두막 룸이 숲의 일부인냥 느껴지게 한다. 계단은 바닥에서 나무 위 캐빈 공간까지 손님들을 자연스럽게 이끄는데 손님의 짐을 옮기는 작은 리프트도 옆으로 구성되어 있다. 우리는 빌바오의 확장 지역에 위치한 어느 주거 건물 1층 공간을 개인주거지로의 사용으로 변화시키기 위하여 다양한 교체작업을 진행하였다. 기존 건물은 5개의 작은 사무실로 나눠져 있었는데 이 안에는 2개의 화장실과 L자모양의 통로가 각 공간을 연결하고 있었다. 공간 사용의 급진적 변화를 위해 기존의 건축 재료를 유지하지 않고 공간을 완전히 비우자는 계획을 세웠다. 이를 통해 주거 공간의 새로운 레이아웃을 설계하자는 취지 였다. 새로운 레이아웃을 설계하기 전 사무 공간으로서 이 곳이 지닌 장점들이 무엇이었는지 접근해 보았다. 이를 통해 도시에서 우리가 흔히 볼 수 있는 전형적인 주택 공간에서 찾을 수 있는 것보다 훨씬 더 큰 공간이 존재한다는 것을 발견하였다. 게다가 표준과는 반대로 이 글레이즈한 공간은 기..
