*시게루 반 목조 가구식의 또다른 방향성을 제시하다 [ shigeru ban ] tamedia office building nearing completion

일본 건축가 시게루 반의 최근작 스위스 미디어 컴패니, 타미디어 본사 프로젝트는

우드팀버를 이용, 구조화한 독특한 방식으로 구조에 대한 많은 이야기 꺼리를

생성한다. 이번 프로젝트에 적용된 구조방식은 이전 일반적인 가구식구조와는

사뭇 다른 결구 방식으로 일본 장인들의 디테일과 CNC밀링 머신의 정확한 가공으로

완성된다.  접합을 위해 기둥과 보에 뚫어 놓은 홀에 빔이 관통하여 이들 부재를 연결한다.

여기서 빔은 기둥과 보를 연결하는 연결재 이자 세컨더리 구조부재로 하중을 다시

분산 시키는 역활을 수행한다. 이와같이 완성된 구조 프레임은 건축물을 지탱하는 구조의

역활은 물론 외부를 감싼 투명한 글래스 파사드를 통하여 적나라하게 외부로 드러나는

디자인 요소로 정의된다.

이전 시게루 반 작업의 연장선 상에 위치한 이번 프로젝트는

그가 고민하는 건축에 대한 방향성을 살펴 볼 수 있는 좋은 기회로

건축을 하는 사람이라면 진지하게 생각해 볼만한 건축의 화두를 생성한다.

아직은 완공 전이라 향후 완공이 되면 어떠한 느낌으로 다가 올까, 매우 궁금해 진다.

with its main structural system made entirely of timber, the new shigeru ban-designed headquarters for swiss media company tamedia appears to be nearing completion. in observance of miyadaiku and sukiya daiku, the japanese mastery of carpentry entirely devoid of joint hardware and glue, the building is a four storey interlocking wooden network of nodes enveloped by a glass skin. while the scale of the work required the precision of CNC milled joists and beams, the laboriousness of the intricate woodwork pays off in a building touted to be carbon neutral.
the project is reportedly the largest timber frame construction in switzerland, requiring about 2000 cubic meters of spruce for completion. the result is an architecture that possesses a light-filled interior replete with perfect joinery. the building is a distinct response both to strict swiss environmental regulations as well as the confluence of the river sihl and the cityscape.
