단층으로 계획된 주말 주택은 거친 콘크리트의 물성을
정제된 형상-리니어하며 심플한 솔리드 메스-으로 구현한다.
그리고 이를 통해 주변 자연환경과의 대조 속에 또다른 싱크를 통하여
모던건축과 자연과의 조화를 이루어 낸다.
원래 그자리에 있던 커다란 암석처럼 두드러 지지 않고
자연의 일부분으로 동화되어 사라진다. 그 속에서 거주자는
평온한 안식을 얻는다.

Belgian architect Nicolas Schuybroek of NS Architects has recently completed a remarkable minimalist single storey holiday house in the South of France. Situated in the Mediterranean on the Côte d'Azur, more specifically in Cap d’ Antibes, this is modern architecture at its finest; linear, geometric, elegant and stunningly beautiful, it artfully integrates into and adapts to its surrounding environment.
The single-family house which is located
in a landscape of unique beauty holds prime position where it looks out
onto the natural milieu of the Mediterranean Sea and the Lérins Islands. Schuybroek’s accomplishment is in both merging and juxtaposing the strong use of concrete with the surrounding lush environment. The single storey linear S House
conceived as a volume positioned in its sea-side setting is indeed a
volume which provides a sense of constructive continuity with large
openings for enjoying pool and sea-side views.
Inside, the same minimal scheme as the exterior architecture, is
followed. Screed cement flooring and walls further accentuate simple
lines and geometric spaces. Abundant natural light floods inside
throughout even through cleverly positioned skylights above the two
master bedrooms’ shower stalls and the WC. Furniture in neutral tones
and wood-finishes only add to the overall minimalist scheme of the S House.
A unique residence with exterior and interior elements which have been
prudently designed in order to preserve a balance and soften the
harshness which concrete can sometimes exude to some, this is a house
where simple and honest linear architecture is seamlessly incorporated
into the equally remarkable landscape of the stunning Mediterranean.
Having seen Nicolas Schuybroek’s work we now understand why the latest edition of AD France-Collector 2013 has listed his firm NS Architects as one of the 100 best interior design firms.
