*클라우드 파빌리온 [ Studio Klimoski Chang Architects ] Cloud Communing

구름한점, 그리고 53,780개의 재활용 우유팩과 플라스틱 물병.

어쩌면 거대한 솜뭉치 같기도 한 설치물이 공원 한자락에 위치한다.

여기 클라우드 파빌리온은 작가가 지향하는 유토피아; 드림씨티, 드림 플레이스를

직간접적으로 공간으로 체험 시키는 인터렉티브 설치 디자인의 한 방향인 동시에

50여명의 소그룹의 다양한 이벤트를 지원하는 실질적인 퍼블릭 스페이스로 제작되었다.

특히 거대한 픽셀라이징 된 외피와 극적인 내부 공간감은

-각각의 용기에 담겨진 물감과 외부 태양빛이 산란하며 만들어 내는-

클라우드 파빌리온의 캐릭터를 결정 짓는다.

Part Anish Kapoor, part meteorological boon, Brooklyn-based Studio Klimoski Chang Architects (STUDIOKCA) created an 800-square-foot cloud to grace Governor’s Island as FIGMENT’s third annual City of Dreams Pavilion.

The Head in the Clouds Pavilion, funded in part through Kickstarter, beat out 200 other design proposals to generate a “place to dream in the city of dreams.” To create the seemingly cotton-soft, billowing form, volunteers and the architects at STUDIOKCA clustered 53,780 recycled milk jugs and water bottles (the amount discarded in New York City in just one hour) in mesh. The structure, supported by lightweight, 1.5-inch aluminum tubing and anchored with sand, can accommodate up to 50 visitors. Natural light filters through the translucent bottles, tinted blue and turquoise with water and organic food coloring.

FIGMENT is a non-profit art organization that facilitates participatory art events across the country. Head in the Clouds Pavilion is on view through September 22.
