nissan has applied a specially engineered super-hydrophobic and oleophobic paint – which repels water and oils – to the european version of the nissan note, establishing the world’s first self-cleaning car. the technology used, known as ultra-ever dry®, creates a protective layer of air between the paint and the environment, which effectively stops standing water and road spray from creating dirty marks on the car’s surface. with no current plans to be use the paint in standard production, the company says that they will continue to consider the coating technology as a future aftermarket option that can be custom-ordered.
