Situated on the topmost floor of an office building in Beirut, Lebanon, the new bar and restaurant Stereokitchen is the latest addition to our list of stylish places with an unparalleled view. Designed by architect Paul Kaloustian, the venue is basically a glass pavilion in the shape of a perfect circle, pretty much like the observation deck of a tower. Flanked by two spacious balconies overlooking the city on the one side and the harbor, and the Mediterranean further afield on the other, the views are pretty amazing. Inside, the dining and drinking tables, as well as the double-face bar, have been laid out concentrically, creating different zones and spatial possibilities. The palette of materials and colours used is equally simple where exposed concrete, combined with wooden furniture in light tones, contrasts with the ceiling made of dark metal. The designer has furthermore achieved a sense of continuity between the venue’s inside and the outside through extending the ceiling's zigzag pattern seamlessly across the entire space, from one balcony end to the other.
Paul Kaloustian is an award-winning architect based in Beirut. He graduated from the GSD Harvard (2001) and worked at Herzog & de Meuron before opening his own office in 2002.
