eamon o’kane is a belfast born artist who is currently exhibiting his debut solo show at new york’s rare gallery.
‘the architect’s house’ feature large scale oil paintings that demonstrate o’kane’s interest in architecture and
design. many of the works show masterpieces in the modern architecture cannon, such as frank lloyd
wright’s fallingwater or the eames’ house. these buildings are surrounded by bright landscapes that are
changing between seasons and colours, creating a surreal backdrop. while o’kane acknowledges the quality
of the buildings, he uses them as symbols ‘of a precarious scenario where utopia apparently is within reach
but actually is on the verge of being obliterated’.
