German designer Theresa Arns has created a set of steel-framed furniture that references classic art deco shapes.
She describes the Spring 2017 collection of prototypes as "simple but sensual". It was made by Danish cabinetmakers and blacksmiths and pairs metal frameworks with wood and brass details.
Comprising a bench, table and shelving system, the range is designed to work in both office or home. It echoes Arns' philosophy of using natural, long-lasting materials.
The Nova bench rests on black powder-coated steel, topped by an oval-shaped velvet seat – chosen as a softer contrast to the metal. The legs of the bench extend upwards into a pair of semi-circles at either end, included as a reference to typical art deco forms.
Also aimed at the home is the Dusk bedside table, which is designed for "all the small things we need before going to sleep or when getting up in the morning".
A cross-shaped steel base supports a single oak drawer, with a peg-shaped brass handle and fittings.
Arns' Oda storage system is intended for either home or office use, using a basic framework that can be filled with open shelves, or combinations of differently sized oak drawers.
Shelves can be used as single pieces or placed alongside one another to form longer sections of storage that can double as room dividers. Pieces fit onto brass pegs, so they appear to be "hovering" in the black steel support.
