bispebjerg bakke dwellings
135 rented accomodation dwellings designed
by Professor Bjørn Nørgaard, sculptor, in collaboration with Boldsen & Holm
Architects.
The sculptor Bjørn Nørgaard used music as
his point of departure when he modeled the first version of the building in
clay, noting, “If it cannot be modeled, it should not be built.”
The complex comprises two buildings that wind like a serpent through the grounds. The buildings have three or four stories, with a tower-like expansion in places that rises to eight stories. The goal was to demonstrate that good craftsmanship can compete with today’s industrialized building. Windows are made of wood and aluminum, roofs of zinc or copper. Both red and yellow bricks were used, referring to the classical blocks of apartments in the Nørrebro quarter, where red was used on the street and yellow on the court. (cphx)
