숲 사이를 걷는 파빌리온
울창한 수목이 경계를 이루는 부지 안에, PL.architekci의 S하우스가 자리를 잡았다. 폴란드 포즈난 외곽, 수림이 시작되는 곳이다. 이 주택은 풍경 위에 조용히 내려앉듯 존재하며, 주변을 압도하는 대신 풍경 안으로 조용히 녹아드는 집이다.

설계 초기부터 건축가들은 단단하게 집약된 매스라는 개념을 내려놓았다. 그 대신, 기존 수목의 흐름을 따라가는 낮고 수평적인 파빌리온을 제안했다. 나무 기둥과 가지들 사이로, 건물은 수평의 실루엣으로 조용히 읽힌다. 외곽선은 대지의 성격을 지키기 위해 나무들 사이를 비켜가며 조용히 휘어진다. S하우스는 부지 안의 나무들을 건물 안으로 끌어들이지 않는다. 오히려 나무들이 공간의 기준점으로 제자리를 지키도록 비워둔다.


숲의 밀도를 평면으로 응답하다
이름 그대로, S하우스의 평면은 S자 곡선을 따른다. 숲이 빽빽하게 들어찬 대지의 밀도에 직접 반응한 결과다. 설계팀은 이 구조 안에 넉넉한 주거 프로그램을 담으면서도, 대지 본래의 질서를 흩트리지 않았다. 평면이 굽어지는 방식 덕분에 건물은 나무들 사이를 자연스럽게 비집고 들어가며, 유리면 가까이 정원이 파고드는 작은 틈들을 곳곳에 만들어낸다.

이 굴곡은 동선으로도 이어진다. 평면의 굴곡을 따라 뻗은 유리 복도가 공간과 공간을 연결한다. 그 안을 걷다 보면 어느새 야외를 거니는 감각에 가까워진다. 수피의 결, 흔들리는 잎사귀, 하늘의 조각이 시시각각 시야를 스쳐간다. 유리의 투명함, 그리고 자연과의 근접함 속에서, 안과 밖의 경계는 서서히 스며들 듯 허물어진다. S하우스는 이 순간들을 하나로 이어지는 연속된 공간 경험으로 엮어낸다.


접힌 하늘 — 아코디언 지붕
지역 건축 법규는 경사 지붕을 요구했다. 동시대 주거 건축의 성격을 종종 뒤바꿔 놓는 제약이다. PL.architekci는 이에 맞서, 천장면 전체에 리듬을 부여하는 아코디언(accordion) 형태의 지붕 구조를 고안했다. 반복적으로 접힌 이 지붕은, 위에서 내려다보면 지그재그로 출렁이는 외피를 드러낸다. 내부에서는 그 접힌 단면이 복잡하고 역동적인 천장 경험을 만들어낸다.

경사진 지붕은 공간에 고요한 울림도 함께 더한다. 조명과 환기 시스템은 천장의 주름 안으로 조용히 숨어들어, 기술적 요소들이 시선 밖으로 물러난다.


자연과 재료가 만나는 자리
S하우스의 내부는 외부에서 확립된 건축적 논리를 그대로 이어받는다. 절제된 색조 구성이 공간 전반을 정의하며, 흰 레진(resin) 바닥재는 테라스를 향해 자연스럽게 이어진다. 이 바닥면은 자연광을 고스란히 받아 반사시키며, 공간의 개방감을 한층 증폭시킨다. 짙은 오크(oak) 베니어는 벽면과 붙박이 가구 곳곳에 스며들어 공간에 온기를 입힌다. 넓게 트인 공간의 고요함과 나무의 온기 — 두 결이 맞닿는 자리에서 S하우스의 내부는 완성된다.

s house: a pavilion among the trees
Huddled within a site defined by mature trees, S House by PL.architekci stands in the wooded outskirts of Poznań, Poland. The residence occupies the landscape sensitively, and takes shape as a contemporary home that humbly settles into its surroundings.
From the outset, the architects set aside the idea of a compact, centralized mass. Instead, they proposed a low pavilion that traces the existing vegetation. The house reads as a horizontal presence filtered through trunks and branches, its perimeter adjusting to preserve the character of the plot. The building frames the existing trees on-site, allowing them to remain the main spatial markers.

PL.architekci respects the forested site
True to its name, the plan of PL.architekci’s S House follows an S shaped curve, a direct response to the density of the forested plot. The design team develops this geometry to accommodate a generous residential program while maintaining the integrity of the site. By bending the footprint, the house moves between trees and creates pockets of garden that press close to the glazing.
Circulation occurs through glazed corridors that extend along the bends of the plan. Moving through them feels akin to walking outdoors, with shifting views of bark, foliage, and sky. The boundary between interior and exterior becomes permeable through transparency and proximity. The house gathers these moments into a continuous and cohesive sequence of spaces.

the accordion roof structure
Local planning regulations required pitched roofs, a constraint that often alters the character of contemporary residential architecture. In response, PL.architekci devised an accordion like roof structure that introduces rhythm across the ceiling plane. Its folded profile gives the exterior a zig-zagging surface when viewed from above while shaping complex a ceiling condition along the interiors.
This angled roof further lends improved acoustics, while light and ventilation systems are integrated within the ceiling folds, allowing technical elements to recede from view. 
The S House’s interiors continue the architectural logic established outside. A subdued palette defines the rooms, with white resin floors extending toward the terraces. These surfaces reflect daylight and amplify the sense of openness, while dark oak veneers introduce warmth along walls and built-in furnishings.
