D9 Artsy Office is a minimalist space located in Vilnius, Lithuania, designed by IMPLMNT. Throughout its history, the building has evolved significantly. A notable transformation occurred in 1912 with the addition of a second floor, a project coinciding with Andrius Domaševičius, a noted gynecologist, taking residence and establishing a clinic named Health. Domaševičius’s contributions to the field and the community were profound, eventually leading to a street being named in his honor. From 1920 to 1927, the building served as the home of Dr. Jonas Basanavičius, a key figure in Lithuania’s fight for independence and the founding editor of the nation’s first newspaper, “Aušra”. However, the outbreak of World War II brought significant changes, with the property being nationalized in 1940 and repurposed as a court of law, until it was returned to its rightful owners in 1994 following Lithuania’s independence from the Soviet Union.

In 1994, marking a new era, the building became the headquarters for an information technology company, featuring a distinctive trapezoidal extension by architect Leonardas Vaitys. The latest chapter in its storied history commenced in 2023, with D9’s acquisition and IMPLMNT architects’ innovative redesign, blending historical preservation with contemporary design. The building’s significance was officially recognized in 1996 when it was added to the Register of Cultural Valuables of the Republic of Lithuania. A commitment to preserving its original elements is evident, with the facade’s early 20th-century design remaining largely unchanged. The interior is a celebration of heritage, boasting preserved polychrome paintings, intricate moldings, and vintage oak parquet flooring, alongside the new annex’s central glazed roof that introduces a modern spatial dynamic.
