숲이 열리는 자리
트렌티노(Trentino)의 산림 지대, 알프스의 능선이 지평선을 가득 채우는 자리에 피네타 네이처 리조트(Pineta Nature Resort)가 자리한다. 전통 알파인 목조 건물들이 완만한 경사지에 흩어져 있는 이 부지 위로, 건축가 미켈레 시케르(Michele Sicher)는 오래된 풍경과 새로운 건축 사이의 경계를 다시 묻는 작업을 시작했다. 기존 샬레들의 어두운 목재 외벽과 기와지붕이 세월의 결을 드러내는 한편, 경사지 끝에 새로 들어선 웰니스 SPA동은 낙엽송(larch) 외장의 밝은 목재 빛깔로 그 곁에 조용히 섰다. 지역의 건축 언어를 낯선 방식으로 해석한 이 건물 하나가, 리조트 전체에 새로운 정체성을 부여하기 시작했다.


수면 위의 집
웰니스 SPA동은 리조트의 심장이다. 이 건물이 처음 눈에 들어오는 순간, 방문객은 낯익은 박공 실루엣 안에서 뭔가 달라진 것을 감지한다. 전통적인 경사지붕의 형태는 그대로이지만, 지붕면 아래를 가득 채운 것은 벽이 아닌 유리다. 넓은 유리면이 숲을 향해 열려, 실내로 들어선 순간 자연이 눈앞으로 밀려든다. 안팎의 경계는 지워지고, 물과 나무와 자연은 하나의 감각으로 합류한다.

메인 볼륨 안에는 이완 라운지와 인피니티 풀(infinity pool)이 자리한다. 풀 수면 너머로 산의 실루엣이 겹쳐 보이고, 이른 아침이면 따뜻한 물에서 피어오른 물안개가 목재 포치 아래를 천천히 채운다. 그 곁에 세 개의 소형 매스가 입구, 샤워실, 욕실을 각각 품고 있다. 이 서비스 매스는 코르텐강(Corten steel)으로 마감해 주 건물과 소재를 달리했는데, 산화철 특유의 붉은 갈색 표면이 낙엽송의 밝은 황갈색과 맞닿으며 오히려 조화를 이룬다. 현대적 재료와 전통적 형태가 갈등 없이 공존하는 이 방식이, 건축가가 이 프로젝트 전반에서 일관되게 견지한 태도다.


목재가 말하는 구조의 언어
이 건물에서 목재는 단순한 마감재가 아니다. 목재 보 프레임과 엑스람(XLAM) 교차집성목 벽체가 구조 그 자체로 드러나며, 공간의 리듬을 형성한다. 사선으로 내려오는 서까래 프레임이 시선을 창 밖 풍경으로 자연스럽게 인도하고, 반복되는 목재의 결이 이완 라운지 전체에 일정한 호흡을 부여한다. 천장과 벽, 바닥을 가득 채운 목재의 온기 속에서 사람들은 별다른 의지 없이 몸을 내려놓게 된다.

건축가가 목재를 택한 데는 기능적 근거도 있다. 염소 처리된 풀 수증기에 지속적으로 노출되는 환경에서, 목재는 부식에 취약한 여타 소재에 비해 월등한 내구성을 발휘한다. 아름다움과 실용성이 같은 방향을 가리키는 선택이었다.


오래된 샬레의 새로운 호흡
웰니스 신축동 맞은편, 기존 샬레 한 동이 조심스러운 변신을 거쳤다. 건축가는 외형의 원형과 전통적 성격을 최대한 보존하면서, 내부 구성을 완전히 새로 짰다. 두 동의 테라스형 아파트가 다섯 개의 스위트로 탈바꿈했고, 각 공간은 이전보다 넓어진 채광과 한층 깊어진 조망을 누린다. 건축적 개입의 흔적은 감추지 않았다. 새로 더해진 요소들은 기존 건물과 분명히 구별되도록 설계했으며, 그 솔직함이 오히려 리노베이션의 품격을 높인다.


창이 풍경을 끌어들이다
리노베이션의 핵심은 다섯 개의 돌출창(bow window)이다. 벽면에서 바깥으로 튀어나온 이 창은 단순히 빛을 더 들이는 장치가 아니다. 창가에 앉으면 나무 너머로 돌로미티(Dolomiti) 능선이 그림처럼 눈앞에 들어온다. 방 안에 앉아 있으면서도 산속에 있는 듯한 느낌, 그 작은 경험의 확장이 이 창의 역할이다. 두 개의 스위트는 지형의 자연스러운 경사를 따라 놓인 10미터 길이의 브리지를 통해 진입하며, 이 브리지는 무장애(barrier-free) 접근까지 가능하도록 설계했다. 공간을 찾아오는 모든 사람에게 동등한 경험을 제공하려는 의지가 이 작은 경로에 담겨 있다.


전통과 현재가 손잡은 리조트
신축 웰니스 SPA동과 리노베이션된 샬레. 두 개의 건축적 개입이 함께 완성하는 것은 단순한 공간 확장이 아니다. 피네타 네이처 리조트는 이 작업을 통해 오래된 알파인 풍경 안에서 동시대적 목소리를 얻었다. 전통의 형태는 유지하되 그 안을 채우는 재료와 경험을 새롭게 조율한 이 방식은, 건축이 역사와 어떻게 대화해야 하는지를 조용히 보여준다. 숲속에 자리한 이 리조트를 떠나는 순간, 사람들이 기억하는 것은 아마도 건물의 형태가 아니라 목재의 온기와 유리 너머 산의 풍경일 것이다.

Located in the forests of Trentino, Pineta Nature Resort is a scattered hotel surrounded by a traditional Alpine landscape of timber buildings and mountain views. The project reinterprets local architectural traditions through a contemporary design approach closely connected to nature.

Infinity Pool - New Building  The new panoramic relaxation area with Infinity Pool is the heart of the project. Conceived as an extension of the landscape, the building opens toward the surrounding forest through large glazed surfaces that blur the boundary between inside and outside. Water, wood, and nature become part of a single experience. The main volume contains the relaxation lounge and pool, while three smaller corten steel volumes accommodate the entrance, showers, and bathrooms. These service volumes clearly express a contemporary character while remaining fully integrated within the overall architectural composition. The building takes inspiration from traditional Alpine architecture through its pitched roof and vertical larch cladding. The combination of natural timber and Corten steel creates a strong connection with the surrounding mountain environment.

Wood as Structure and Architectural Language  Wood is the defining element of the project. The structure is intentionally exposed, with beam frames and XLAM walls shaping the interior spaces and becoming part of the architectural expression. The rhythm of the timber frames guides visitors through the relaxation area and frames views of the landscape. Wood was also chosen for technical reasons. In an environment exposed to chlorinated pool vapors, it offers excellent durability and long-term resistance compared to materials that are more vulnerable to corrosion.

Chalet Renovation  Alongside the new wellness area, an existing chalet was renovated while preserving its original shape and traditional character. The intervention balances conservation and innovation, allowing new architectural elements to be clearly recognizable. Two former terraced apartments were transformed into five suites, improving both comfort and the relationship with the surrounding landscape. Two of the suites are reached by a new ten-meter bridge that follows the site's natural slope and provides barrier-free access. A key feature of the renovation is the introduction of five bow windows, designed to extend the rooms toward the landscape. These spaces enhance natural light, expand interior views, and make the surrounding scenery part of the guest experience.

Together, the new wellness SPA building and the renovated chalet give Pineta Nature Resort a renewed architectural identity. Combines tradition, contemporary design, and a strong connection to nature.
